2008 recap
The Kansas City Hunting and Fishing Collectibles Show held its seventh annual show February 22nd and 23rd with close to 700 attendees and over 200 dealer tables. “Attendance was up from last year and we added a dozen more tables,” said Peter Marsh the show promoter. “We attracted dealers and attendees from far away as
Georgia
,
New Mexico
,
South Dakota
,
Mississippi
,
North Carolina
,
Minnesota
,
Wisconsin
and
Texas
.”
The weather again gave us a scare as a fairly large snow/ice storm moved thru the area on Thursday, but the weather broke and was nice for both Friday and Saturday. A long enthusiastic line formed before the
3:00
opening on Friday and remained steady throughout the afternoon. The show closed at
8:00
with the dealers being treated to a reception at the new Holiday Inn located right next to the
Expo
Center
.
The show reopened to the public at
9:00
on Saturday to a small crowd, but by
10:00
attendance really picked up and remained steady until closing time at
3:00
. Ken Trayer from
Pennsylvania
was in attendance signing copies of his book North American Factory Decoys. Joe Engers from Decoy Magazine made the trip from
Delaware
to offer subscriptions, back issues and books by Decoy Magazine. The Daschners (Hunting Rig Books) joined us this year with their vast inventory of hunting & fishing collectible books. Sold
USA
was accepting consignments for upcoming auctions.
Most dealers reported good sales, and several nice items found their way into the show. Marsh reported, “I saw many tackle boxes being carried in by show attendees. From what I heard from the dealers, there was one tackle box that included seven plastic pumpkinseed lures, and four of them were in their original boxes.”
Planning has already begun for next years show and updates will soon be available on the show website. |
